Responsibilities

MV Transportation provides safe and reliable bus transportation services to transit agencies, corporations, and schools across the U.S. and Canada.  In operation for more than 45 years, MV is the largest privately held transit operator in the U.S., with market-leading positions in both paratransit and fixed route bus service segments, moving more than 110 million bus passengers per year.

 

The team

MV’s operations are organized by geographical region.  Each region is led by a Regional Vice President, who has a team of director-level support in Safety, Finance, Maintenance, and Human Resources.  The Regional Accounting Manager role reports in through the Accounting organization via Director of Finance, with dotted line reporting to the RVP of his/her respective region. 

 

The Regional Accounting Manager has a team of peers across the organization who each provide Finance and Accounting support for their individual regions.

 

The team has four key areas of accountability within their region: 1) business decision support; 2) completeness and accuracy of financials; 3) variable budget/forecasting; and 4) controls/compliance. 

 

Work you’ll do

Business Decision Support

  • Prepare ad hoc analyses and business cases, including sensitivity analyses. Typical examples include labor/union impact studies, (re)pricing scenarios, or operational change models.
  • Prepare and present regional business cases/financial information to Corporate Executive Leadership, including CEO, CFO, and COO.

Accounting

  • Oversee monthly financial close of the region’s multiple business units. This includes both the preparation and review of journal entries; review of business unit income statements; and variance analysis.

Financial

  • Prepare annual budget, monthly forecasts, and related MD&A for multiple business units.
  • Assist the RVP and DOF prepare for and present monthly reporting package including month over month changes (with related causals), operational metrics, and other key data.

Controls/Compliance

  • Conduct audits of inventory, assets, fuel, credit card, and farebox procedures within the individual business units.
  • Ensure business operations within the region adhere to financial related policies and best practices.

Qualifications

Key attributes you’ll need to be successful

  • Strong background in both Finance and Accounting
  • Excellent communication skills: ability to articulate complex concepts in clear, concise manner
  • Intellectual horsepower, coupled with the ability to apply sound, independent judgment
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple business units successfully

Baseline Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Accounting or Finance
  • Accounting supervisory experience
  • Minimum 3 years financial accounting or analyst experience

Additional attributes considered a “plus”

  • Transportation industry experience
  • Power BI knowledge

Starting salary range: $100,000 - $125,000
