Responsibilities

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Safety and Training Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will help ensure a safe working environment, prevent injuries and accidents, and maintain compliance with regulatory guidelines through safety programs and communications.

 

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Create safety and training content and materials to promote safety culture, such as safety messages, toolbox talks, safety meetings, and bulletins, using insights from safety indicators.
  • Assist in the design, development, and implementation of other safety program initiatives, as required.
  • Manage safety recognition programs, including safety incentives, operator awards, pins and patches, and driver safety bonuses.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with vendors that provide support for safety related items, including PPE, awards, and safety program materials.
  • Oversee successful completion of all related audits and ensure audits are uploaded to a library for reporting and tracking.
  • Review and process regulatory documents to ensure accurate record keeping, tracking, and follow up.
  • Support annual compliance reporting and filing for DOT and OSHA.
  • Prepare and distribute reports for compliance tracking, as required.
  • Review all vehicular, passenger, and employee accidents/incidents to determine cause, preventability, and identify trends for future training.
  • Manage and maintain library of company safety resources in SharePoint using document control, versioning and archive procedures.
  • Manage safety department calendar and oversee centralized scheduling of meetings, training, and other departmental activities.
  • Manage safety department Outlook accounts, distribution lists, and coordinate departmental communication and correspondence.
  • Schedule and facilitate departmental meetings. Help set agenda, take and distribute minutes, follow-up on action items.
  • Onboard new safety employees by ordering equipment and processing requests for access to systems.
  • Continuously research and maintain a current understanding of governing regulations.
  • Review policies and procedures regularly to ensure compliance with DOT, FTA, FMCSA, CHP, OSHA, and other regulatory authorities. Ensure that our policies and procedures reflect current regulations.
  • Support divisions with safety and training initiatives or help, as required.
  • Perform other safety program and administration duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Talent Requirements: 

  • Post Secondary Degree in Safety, Communications, or related degree or experience.
  • Two (2) to three (3) years safety support or related experience developing and delivering safety and/or operations programs and training in transit or related industries.
  • Experience with DOT, FMCSA, and OSHA or any safety related field.
  • Proficient with Office 365 tools (Teams, Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Strong team and collaborative skills.
  • Strong problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to self-manage and self-motivate.
  • Ability to work under pressure and deadlines.

Preferred:

  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative or content creation tools.
  • Experience with learning content development, instructional design, marketing content development, or video content development an asset.
  • Proficiency with training video content creation.
  • Proficiency with SmartSheet.
  • Understanding of adult learning principles.
