Responsibilities

MV Transportation is seeking a Safety Manager who will be a hands-on manager helping implement programs and procedures in compliance with State and Federal regulations and corporate and client policies; and be accountable for the leadership of the Drive Cam and OSHA/CDL at the division level. Sets the tone for ensuring all operators are current with training requirements of company and contract. 

 

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Serves as the Division’s subject matter expert on FTA Drug and Alcohol compliance, ensuring full implementation of 49 CFR Part 655 and Part 40 regulations.
  • Manages and audits all aspects of the Drug and Alcohol Program, including random testing pools, Reasonable Suspicion and Post-Accident procedures, recordkeeping, contractor oversight, and training, ensuring strict adherence to FTA and corporate standards.
  • Coordinates closely with MV’s Designated Employer Representative (DER) and third-party administrators (TPAs) to ensure real-time program integrity, proper documentation, and timely response to FTA audit requirements.
  • Ensures all safety manuals, programs, policies, and practices (including Drug and Alcohol policies) are current and meet the needs of the operating divisions and regulatory expectations.
  • Resides as the expert in FTA Drug and Alcohol, EPA, OSHA, and CDL compliance and regulations.
  • Oversees compliance checks for new hires to ensure minimum general qualifications, including background, DMV, and drug/alcohol clearance are met before onboarding.
  • Ensures the use of safety technology tools; examines results, analyzes trend data, and develops corrective action plans to reduce safety risks and prevent recurrence.
  • Manages and promotes Corporate Safety Incentives, including consistent application of Safety Points and employee recognition programs.
  • Champions a unified Safety Culture that integrates operations, maintenance, and safety staff, emphasizing personal accountability and collaboration across departments.
  • Leads successful preparation for and response to all safety-related audits, including FTA Drug and Alcohol Program audits, corporate reviews, client inspections, and federal/state evaluations.
  • Directs safety training initiatives in classroom and behind-the-wheel formats in line with corporate, client, and regulatory standards, including drug and alcohol awareness and Reasonable Suspicion training.
  • Reviews, investigates, and provides oversight on all vehicular, passenger, and employee incidents to determine cause, preventability, and necessary retraining or policy updates.
  • Participates in hiring and development of safety department exempt personnel, ensuring alignment with MV’s safety and regulatory priorities.
  • Ensures all training materials, supplies, and documentation—especially related to the Drug and Alcohol Program—are current, compliant, and well-maintained.

Qualifications

Talent Requirements: 

  • Minimum five (5) years of progressive safety or compliance management experience in a transportation environment, preferably with direct responsibility for FTA Drug and Alcohol compliance.
  • In-depth knowledge of FTA Drug and Alcohol Program regulations (49 CFR Parts 655 and 40) and demonstrated experience managing compliant programs.
  • One-year accident/injury-free professional driving experience preferred.
  • Strong leadership, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Experience working in a high-compliance, fast-paced environment.
  • Proven ability to lead training and instruction, including Reasonable Suspicion Training and program compliance briefings.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and database management systems for audit preparation and compliance tracking.
  • Excellent attendance and organizational abilities.

 

Starting Salary Range: $90,000 - $100,800

Other Compensation: $1,000.00 Driver referral bonus ($500.00 upon training completion and $500.00 upon completion of probationary period); $1,000.00 Mechanic referral bonus ($500.00 upon training completion and $500.00 upon completion of probationary period)
